How can I update to a new HO version without losing my data?


Disclaimer: it is advised to backup your old HO data before installing an update.

There are several alternatives to update your HO! installation, like:
- extracting all files from the Zip release into your existing HO folder (overwriting existing files)
- install the new HO release into the same folder, where your current HO is already located
- make a new installation and copy the "db" folder from your old HO into the new installation
- make a new installation, import all old HRFs, download matches, recalculate subskills
.. but the easiest way is to use the internal update mechanism, which gets described in the following:

EN: You can see the currently used version in the window title of HO. To initiate the update, choose File -> Refresh -> HO! from the main menu.	DE: Die aktuelle HO!-Version ist im Fenstertitel zu sehen. Um das Update zu starten, wählt Datei -> Aktualisieren -> HO! aus dem Hauptmenü.
EN: If there is a new version available, you'll see a dialog that asks you for an update. Click [Yes]. If nothing happens, you are already using the latest official version.	DE: Falls es eine neue Version gibt, erscheint ein Dialog, der das Update vorschlägt. Einfach [Ja] anklicken. Wenn an der Stelle nichts passiert, benutzt ihr schon die neueste ofizielle Version.
EN: Now the file gets downloaded, you'll have to wait for the progress bar to disappear.	DE: Jetzt wird die Datei heruntergeladen, wartet, bis die Fortschrittsanzeige verschwindet.
EN: If everything went well, you'll see a message, that you need to restart HO now in order to activate the update. If the progress bar disappears without this message, there might be a problem with the download. Please try to load it again (restart at step 1). After klicking [OK] HO will shut down.	DE: Wenn alles geklappt hat, erscheint jetzt die Meldung, daß ein HO! Neustart nötig ist, um die neue Version zu aktivieren. Fall der Fortschrittsbalken jedoch ohne diese Meldung verschwinden sollte, gab es vermutlich ein Problem beim Download. Startet das Update dann bitte nochmal (zurück zu Schritt 1). Nach dem Klick auf [OK] beendet sich der HO.
EN: If you now start HO! again, you'll hopefully see that you're using the new version.	DE: Wenn ihr den HO! jetzt wieder startet, sieht man hoffentlich die neue Versionsnummer.
EN: After sucessfully updating HO, you might want to check for updated optional plugins as well (if you're using any).	DE: Nachdem der HO selbst nun aktualisiert wurde, sollte man noch nach aktualisierten optionalen Plugins schauen (falls man welche nutzt).
